Physical Education and Activity Improves
Students’ Health and Wellbeing
To ensure our students grow up healthy, LAUSD promotes the benefits of a
Comprehensive School Physical Activity Program (CSPAP), where quality
physical education is the cornerstone. Elementary students receive 200
minutes of physical education every ten days and secondary students
receive 400 minutes every ten days. We also integrate opportunities for
physical activity before school, during school, and after the school day.
Research shows that children participating in daily physical activity
demonstrate superior academic performance and a more positive attitude
toward school. It has also been shown to improve short-term memory, ability
to focus and creativity while decreasing disruptive behaviors in the classroom.
